1. Learn from Bruce Lee and be like water
Just like Bruce Lee, when it comes to Facebook you need your social media Kung-fu to be like water. It’s a certainty that Facebook will develop, improve and change. Make sure your marketing methods are like water.
Facebook changes at least every week in minor ways. Often, every six months there are huge developments to its architecture and user experience. As these developments occur make sure your marketing adapts to fit these developments.
Just like Bruce Lee advises with Kung-fu:
“Be formless, be shapeless; like water. If you put water into a cup it becomes the cup. If you put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle. If you put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
Most of all we advise that you always lead with a content-first strategy on Facebook. Create content for your audience. Publish updates that are interesting to them, useful and of value. Be like water when it comes to getting these updates to your audience and you will do just fine on Facebook.
2. Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
Be original and find your voice on Facebook. There is no need to be a clone of another business. Just remember, every business is different.
Your uniqueness needs to be profiled in your about section. Writing about your own business is often very difficult. Ask key customers why they use your service or product and why they choose you over competitors. Make sure their replies are reflected in your about section.
Next, make sure regular Facebook posts reflect this message. There is no need to be another Slim Shady. You don’t need to look like him, dress like him, walk, talk or act like him.
3. ET phone home
If ET had a Facebook page it would have saved Elliott a lot of time especially if the phone number was present (Let’s not mention the fact that ET landed on Earth in 1982 – way before Facebook and even the internet).
It is easy to forget what it was like before Facebook and the internet. If you wanted to phone someone you had to find their number in a printed directory, or in ET’s case build a radio transmitter. Now many people simply search the number online.
With this in mind, you have to ask why so many businesses do not make their number exceptionally visible online. This is particularly the case on Facebook.
Make sure your business number is displayed on the page bio, on the cover image and regularly in updates. Make it super easy for customers to see the number.
Come on Facebook business users; let’s make it easy for ET to phone us.
4. Scare like Sullivan and Mike
Sullivan and Mike would be instant Facebook stars. You can guarantee their Facebook updates would be visual, funny and entertaining.
Take a leaf out of their book and become a leading entertainer. Use photos, videos and graphics to your advantage. Make sure your updates suit your audience and then make them very visual.
Vivid colours, interesting viewpoints and original subject matter will make you stand out from the busy crowd that that makes up Facebook.
5. I’ll be back!
In the Terminator film series, we see a bleak prediction for the future where the human race is being hunted to extinction by a race of robot cyborgs. This storyline begins with the development of A.I. (artificial intelligence).
It was recently reviled that Facebook already uses A.I. algorithms to optimize timeline content for users. Don’t worry, this does not signal the end of the human race rather a more user orientated experience on Facebook.
You can help your content be chosen by this A.I. algorithm by making sure you post more videos and photos. Next, you need to encourage shares, interactions and likes. If you achieve this your content will automatically be published to a larger percentage of your page likes.
6. Be part of the breakfast club.
In the cult classic “Breakfast Club” a group of likeable students find themselves in detention. Despite their differences, they find common ground which is summed up at the end of the film in a brief essay, written at the last minute.

Good social media is very much the same. Content is what matters. Once you get into the routine of producing great content, that actually contains a strong message or belief for your online audience, you will do very well.
Good content comes before everything else on social media. Even if you pay for advertising you need to make sure you are advertising relevant content otherwise it will be a waste of money.
Use these 6 Facebook marketing strategies your advantage and you may find yourself becoming a master at kung-fu, being an original Slim Shady, helping E.T. phone home, scaring like Sullivan, using A.I. to your advantage and not getting into detention next week!
Very original post and great advice apart from number 6. I am not too sure what the breakfast club is. I will have to look into it further.
